Established in 1986, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
is the leading national volunteer-based organization in Canada
dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer.
The Foundation works collaboratively to
fund, support and advocate for: relevant and innovative research;
meaningful education and awareness programs; early diagnosis and
effective treatment; and a positive quality of life for those living
with breast cancer. Our fundraising through our annual Canadian
Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, special events,
corporate sponsorship and donations has
enabled the Foundation to allocate millions of dollars in grants
for breast cancer projects and services since our inception.
Addressing the needs of Canadians from coast to coast, the Canadian
Breast Cancer Foundation has chapters in British Columbia/Yukon Territory,
Prairies/NWT, Ontario and the Atlantic Region, as well
as several other community-based branch offices. The CBCF National
Office
is
located in Toronto.
Research
In 1998, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation joined the Canadian Breast Cancer
Research Alliance (CBCRA) (formerly the Canadian Breast Cancer Research
Initiative) - a unique coalition of public, private and non-profit
organizations funding breast cancer research in Canada. Through pooled
resources, CBCRA allocates funding to a broad spectrum of breast cancer
research, including prevention, early detection, treatment, quality of life,
health services and fundamental laboratory investigations. CBCF Chapter award
annual research grants, fellowships and special grants to local community and
regional projects.
Education
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation funds education and awareness
programmes throughout the country. Public forums, such as Awareness
Day in October, help promote breast health awareness to thousands
of women each year. Community education grants allow CBCF chapters
to fund local initiatives, reaching out to widespread audiences.
Diagnosis & Treatment
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation also funds projects to improve
breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. These initiatives can help
Canadian women better understand the benefits of early diagnosis
through breast self- examination and mammography. Additionally, many
CBCF research grants are dedicated to improving diagnostic tools
and breast cancer treatment.
Volunteers
We are proud of the thousands of volunteers,
representing every corner of Canada, who donate their time and energy
to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Their ongoing support and
commitment is the backbone of our success.
Partnership
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is affiliated with several
breast cancer and health organizations in the fight against this
disease.
CBCRA - Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance
- The Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance (CBCRA), formerly the
Canadian Breast Cancer Research Initiative, is the primary granting
agency for breast cancer research in Canada. Since its inception in
1993, CBCRA has awarded $138 million to 414 projects spanning the
spectrum of breast cancer research, including prevention, early
detection, treatment and care. CBCRA is a unique Canadian partnership
of groups from the public, private and non-profit sectors committed to
reducing the incidence of breast cancer, increasing survival, and
enhancing the lives of those affected by the disease.
