Breast Cancer Support Services

You do not have to face the challenges of a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment alone. There are many support services for you to access and this page will connect you with some of them. You can also ask your health care team for referrals to social workers, psychologists, counselors, and therapists, as well as information about support services in your community or local area. 

Peer Support & Support Groups

You may wish to access peer support or a support group. These support programs connect you with people who have been through a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

  • Helpline that provides information, support, and can direct you to resources in your community, including support groups.

  • Online community for people affected by or at risk for breast or ovarian cancer and their caregivers, where you can connect with others and share information, experiences and insights

  • Support groups that allow you to connect face-to-face with others who are going through or have gone through a similar experience as you

Canadian Cancer Society

  • One-to-one peer support where you can be connected by phone or in person to a cancer survivor or caregiver whose experience most closely resembles your own

  • Support groups that provide education and informal discussion with others who have cancer as well as caregivers. Some support groups may be specific to one type of cancer, others may offer more general support to people living with cancer.

  • Contact: Call the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cancer Information Service at 1-888-939-3333 to learn more about their Peer Support Service and support groups in your area.

Transportation Assistance

Canadian Cancer Society

The Canadian Cancer Society specializes in transportation assistance for cancer patients who need help getting to and from treatment. Patients registered with the Wheels of Hope transportation service are picked up by a volunteer driver and taken to their appointment. If a volunteer driver is not available in your area, the Canadian Cancer Society can work with you to help you access other public transportation options.
