Carol Ann Cole Studentship Award

In 2011 the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Atlantic Region established the Carol Ann Cole Comfort Heart Studentship Award in recognition of Carol Ann’s contribution to CBCF.

Carol Ann is founder of the Comfort Heart Initiative, which has raised well over a quarter of a million dollars for CBCF – Atlantic Region and over one million dollars for cancer research overall.

The Carol Ann Cole Comfort Heart Studentship Award is presented in perpetuity to the top ranked applicant of the annual CBCF – Atlantic Region Studentship Awards Program. The Studentship Awards Program gives young researchers the chance to take their learning from the lecture hall to the laboratory while fostering an interest in breast cancer research. This ensures that a young researcher studying in Atlantic Canada will receive funding for their work on a 14-week breast cancer research project.

The 2012 recipient of the Carol Ann Cole Comfort Heart Studentship Award is Jason McConnery. Jason’s project is titled “The Mechanism of [10]-Gingerol-Induced Cytotoxicity in Breast Cancer Cells”.  He is working at Dalhousie University under the guidance of  Dr. David Hoskin, the current CBCF – Atlantic Region Endowed Chair in Breast Cancer Research.
