Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS)

CIS Picture.jpgEach year a variety of CIS teams host home game events to show their support for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) - Atlantic Region and those affected by breast cancer. 

The signal for athletic teams to start planning is when Jeff Speedy, Head Coach of the UNB Fredericton Women’s Basketball, launches his annual national initiative, Shoot for the Cure. This Women’s Basketball program triggers other teams of participating University athletic departments to get on board to showcase their combined support, from football to hockey. 

In 2013, Saint Mary’s introduced their first every Toonies for Towels program at their fitness facility as part of their efforts. For a $2.00 donation, patrons could use a pink work out towel and know that they were supporting not only SMU and their efforts, but also the efforts of CBCF. This program is an example of universities going above and beyond to come up with new and exciting ways to support!
