Richie & Donna Mann with Cathy Munroe & The Girls on the Hill
Award presented to innovative fundraisers
The second annual Richie and Donna Mann Award for Innovation in Community Fundraising was awarded on June 2, 2011. The award celebrates an individual, or group in Nova Scotia who has devoted an immeasurable amount of their time to the breast cancer cause through innovative fundraising activities that support CBCF - Atlantic Region.
This year's recipients were Cathy Munroe and the Girls on the Hill, for their creative event - The Haunted Hollow. Held in Hammonds Plains, NS, the Haunted Hollow has attracted visitors from near and far. It started as a one-night show, and by popular demand, is now held over 3 weekends in October!
With funds raised primarily through ticket sales, visitors walk through a wooded area that has been transformed by props and actors whose main goal is to scare and delight! The Haunted Hollow now entertains up to 1,500 visitors per night.
Over the past six years the Haunted Hollow has contributed over $79,000 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Atlantic Region. This event is staffed by a crew of volunteers of all ages whose extraordinary commitment to the cause have made it a resounding success.
Congratulations to Cathy Munroe, and the Girls on the Hill!
