Making a meaningful difference in the lives of women’s health is a key priority for both Shoppers Drug Mart and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF).

This year approximately 25,000 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Yet, only 54% of eligible women in BC participate in mammography with remote populations having even lower participation. Three mobile mammography coaches travel the province and provide 11% of total screenings, that’s 33,000 a year! They reach women in rural and hard-to-access regions as well as women in high density urban settings and workplaces.

Shoppers Drug Mart and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation have partnered with the Screening Mammography Program to purchase and equip three new digital mobile mammography coaches. These modern coaches help remove barriers as they ensure a private and secure experience for all women. In addition, greater numbers of women will be screened due to the speed and efficiency of the digital platform.

The first new digital mobile mammography coach was unveiled on February 24, 2015 in Victoria in front of the legislature. The remaining two coaches were revealed on February 1, 2016 at the Musqueam Community Centre. The coaches were blessed by Musqueam elders and leaders to lend strength to women facing breast cancer and those caring for them.

Twice a year, Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques across the province host Beauty Galas offering free makeovers and skin consultations, giveaways, samples and refreshments. Proceeds from ticket sales fund the new digital mobile mammography coaches.

Thank you to Shoppers Drug Mart for your ongoing commitment to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation!
