Project Title

Identification and characterization of novel human endoribonucleases with implications for cancer gene therapy.

Project Overview

This project aims to identify a special class of molecules with the ability to destroy genes that cause cancer. Only a handful of these molecules have been identified and well-studied, but evidence suggests that there are a great deal more that exist. A large number of molecules have been identified with the specific ability to destroy and therefore inactivate genes, and a list of promising candidates has been developed. This research will perform further studies on these candidate molecules. These studies will be an important step for future development of new anti-cancer therapy using these molecules.

Project Title

Identification of the Notch co-factor RBPJ as a potential tumour surpressor in human breast cancer.

Project Overview

This project will focus on the protein RBPJ and its potential role as a tumour suppressor. Breast cancer samples will be stain prepared and analyzed to determine if they contain a significantly lower amount of RBPJ than normal breast tissue samples. The effects of different levels of expression of RBPJ on tumour growth and size will also be studied.
