CIBC Run for the Cure Seeking Volunteers in 60+ Communities Across Canada
(TORONTO) – July 14, 2016 – As the countdown continues to the annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure on October 2, volunteers are still needed to join the organizing committee in many communities across the country. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) relies heavily on dedicated volunteers who donate their skills and time to plan and manage the CIBC Run for the Cure, Canada’s largest, single-day, volunteer-led event raising funds for the breast cancer cause. Last year more than 5,000 volunteers dedicated thousands of hours of service to the CIBC Run for the Cure.
“The CIBC Run for Cure takes place in more than 60 communities across the country thanks to dedicated community leaders who step up to make a difference,” said Janice O’Reilly, Senior Manager, Volunteer Programs at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. “Volunteers are key to the success of this event and a variety of opportunities are still available, from leadership and logistics roles to positions that don’t require much experience or a huge time commitment. With the support of volunteers, funds raised through the CIBC Run for the Cure are invested in innovative breast cancer research, education and health programs, as well as much-needed support services for the breast cancer community.”
Vonda Dickman, a breast cancer survivor, is marking her third year volunteering for the CIBC Run for the Cure committee. “In 2009 I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 41. After a mastectomy, chemotherapy and targeted therapy, I wanted to give back to my community and to other women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. The CIBC Run for the Cure raises much needed research dollars towards creating a future without breast cancer. I truly believe in the vision of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and by volunteering at this great event I’ve been given the opportunity to inspire, encourage, and support women within my community.”
From coast-to-coast, volunteers like Vonda are making a difference, working together as a team to achieve the shared goal of creating a future without breast cancer. Volunteer needs vary per Run site. Positions range from Run Directors (who oversee the planning of the event) to Fundraising Coordinators (who work with local participants to gather donations) to Logistics Coordinators (who manage the route and Run site on event day).
