This year, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation celebrates its 25th anniversary and the advances in breast cancer science and care made possible by you, our supporters. .
Our mission began with a small group of determined women with a shared vision of reducing the stigma of this disease and funding breast cancer research. Today, their vision resonates so strongly that over one hundred thousand Ontarians pitch in every year to help, by volunteering time, donating money, organizing community fundraisers, taking part in fundraising or educational events, and supporting vital advocacy work that has made real change happen.
Since 1986, the mortality rate for breast cancer has fallen by 35%, due mainly to increased breast cancer screening and improved treatments. From the beginning, the Foundation has actively advocated for breast cancer screening, and supported research across the spectrum from prevention, early detection and diagnosis, to treatment and quality of life for patients. The Foundation has awarded over $84 million in funding for nearly 600 grants, supporting the most promising research projects and fellowships from the brightest minds across Ontario, in addition to community health initiatives
But there is more to be done. Despite great progress, 1 in 9 Canadian women can still expect to be diagnosed with breast cancer within her lifetime. Read more about how you can get involved in creating a future without breast cancer.
