CIBC Run for the Cure

To all participants, donors, volunteers and supporters,

This year was another great year for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure and none of it would have been possible without you. 127,000 participants and volunteers came together on Run day and through the support of generous donors raised over $25 million for innovative breast cancer research, health education, and advocacy initiatives throughout Canada. You make this inspiring and emotional day possible and it is my pleasure to say ‘thank you’ for making it such a success.

I have been involved with the Run in one way or another since 1992; I have been a part of the CIBC Run for the Cure as a volunteer, a donor, a participant, a board member, and now as Chair of the National Board. On each and every Run day, I am inspired by the people I meet who participate to honour and support their friends, family, and the breast cancer community. I remember running around Quidi Vidi Lake in St. John’s one year when it rained relentlessly and the fog was so thick that you could barely see the runners in front of you. Yet, in spite of this, everybody’s spirits were high. When you finally emerged from the mist, everybody was still excited, smiling, laughing, crying, supporting, and encouraging one another. This is the energy and commitment of the CIBC Run for the Cure that inspires and humbles me every year.

The funds that you raised this year will have an impact and will help bring us closer to a future without breast cancer. But, with 24,400 women in Canada expected to develop breast cancer in 2014, we can’t stop now.

On behalf of the National Board of Directors, our deepest thanks for your incredible commitment to the CIBC Run for the Cure, the Foundation, and the breast cancer cause.

Sincerely,

Susan Ewanick
Chair, National Board
