$26.5 million Raised Nationwide as Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure Celebrates Sweet Sixteen

TORONTO, September 30, 2007 – Celebrating 16 years of fundraising success, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure raised $26.5 million today. The largest, single-day, volunteer-led, national event to support breast cancer, this year’s Run attracted more than 170,000 Canadians in 53 communities across the country.

“For the sixteenth year, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure has united thousands of Canadians in support of the breast cancer cause,” says Sharon Wood, CEO, Ontario Region, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Thanks to the dedication of the volunteers, participants, sponsors and staff that set this event apart, we met our fundraising goal and now look forward to putting the money to work.”

With the money raised from today’s Run, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation will continue to support a wide range of studies in the areas of prevention, diagnosis and improved treatment, as well as quality of life research that focuses on helping survivors return to as normal a life as possible.

The Run is an inspirational, non-competitive event that people of all ages and abilities can do on their own, with their family or as part of a team. Participants walk or run their choice of one or five kilometres.

CIBC is celebrating its 11th year as title sponsor of the Run in 2007. “Our sponsorship has come to mean much more than financial support. CIBC employees have adopted the Run as one of their most strongly supported causes, and are committed to creating a future without breast cancer” says Sonia Baxendale, Senior Executive Vice President, CIBC.

Other national sponsors include Ford of Canada, NYGǺRD, Running Room Canada Inc., McCain Foods (Canada) Ltd., Ganong Bros. Ltd., New Balance Canada, Revlon Canada and Canpar Transport L.P.

Where the money goes

The funds raised through the Run enable the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to support breast cancer research and health promotion projects with both regional and national reach. Areas of focus include:
