Screening Mammography Awareness Campaign
The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Region is committed to educating women 40 years of age and older on the importance of going for a free regular mammogram.
Mammography detects smaller tumours earlier. When smaller tumours are detected earlier, women have more treatment options and are more likely to survive. Currently only 50% of all eligible women in BC receive an annual mammogram. If that number was increased to 70%, breast cancer deaths would be reduced by one third.
That's why CBCF, BC/Yukon Region is working to raise awareness and increase mammography participation rates in every region throughout the province. In 2005, with key funding from the Province of British Columbia, CBCF, BC/Yukon Region launched a multi-media awareness campaign encouraging women to book an appointment. Due to its overwhelming success over the past three years, there has been an increase of over 37,000 women booking their first mammogram.
