COMMUNITY BASED RESEARCH

Community Based Research is distinct from other research because it priviledges the principles of community engagement and involvement using participatory research methods. The Ontario Region's Community Based Research Grants provide funding over a period of one to three years for projects that seek to reduce the burden of breast cancer while addressing social, environmental and behavioural factors through recommendations for policy and system change across the breast cancer continuum.

Funded Community Based Research must:

• Use innovative, evidence informed responses to demonstrated and emerging breast cancer and breast health needs;  
• Leverage existing knowledge and gerate new knowledge that is readily translatable into policy and practice environments;
• Foster cross sector partnerships through collaborative patrnership frameworks that include substantive strategies to develop, apply and share new knowledge and skills between groups working across the breast cancer continuum.
