RESEARCH PROJECT GRANT PROGRAM

FALL 2010 CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The fall 2010 call for proposals for the Ontario Region Research Project Grant Program will be issued in mid-September 2010 with an application deadline of Friday October 22, 2010.  Grants may be awarded for individual projects of up to three years in duration, with budgets of up to $450,000 (maximum $150,000 per year).  Further details will be available on this page in September, including program guidebooks and instructions on how to access our web-based application system.

Through the Research Project Grant Program, the Foundation is committed to funding research projects across a broad spectrum of disciplines and methodologies that demonstrate direct impact and relevance to breast cancer and include strategies for knowledge translation and dissemination. Applicants may propose studies ranging from laboratory, pre-clinical and clinical investigations to psychosocial, survivorship, health services, and population health research. Proposed studies may include participatory community-based methodologies.

In Ontario, the Foundation funded 19 research projects submitted to last year’s call for proposals, totaling approximately $6.7 million.  It is anticipated that available funding for the fall 2010 call for proposals will be at a similar level.

In order to address research needs across the breast cancer continuum, the Foundation has introduced a series of general targets for research funding across three broad focus areas. Each broad focus area will have its own peer review panel:

Grant Review Panel A
Focus: Fundamental laboratory and pre-clinical investigations
Target: 35 to 40 per cent of total funding

Grant Review Panel B
Focus: Clinical projects and field studies
Target: 35 to 40 per cent of total funding

Grant Review Panel C
Focus: Psychosocial, supportive care, survivorship and outcomes, quality of life research, health systems research
Target: 15 to 20 per cent of total funding

Actual funding across these broad focus areas may vary from established targets, based upon the number and quality of applications within each.
