Gifts of Securities

The federal government has put in place measures that make it easier to create a significant impact by donating publicly traded stocks and securities to registered Canadian charities. By donating stocks and securities, you may be eligible to pay zero capital gains tax when you transfer directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation rather than selling the shares and donating the proceeds.

Donating stocks and securities is simple, and is generally an electronic transaction started by your financial professional. If you hold paper stocks, you can donate those, too.

Gift of security examples:

  • Publicly listed shares, rights and debt obligations

  • Shares of a Canadian public mutual fund corporation

  • Units of widely held Canadian mutual fund trusts.

Benefits of donating securities:

  • A charitable tax receipt

  • Favourable reductions in capital gains taxation

  • Gifts can be given now or as part of your estate.

How to donate gift of securities:

  1. Complete this form with the help of your financial professional and fax or scan it back to CBCF and our Broker (contact information is listed on the form)

  2. CBCF will be in touch with you to confirm we have received the form.

Upon sale of securities, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation will send a tax receipt. If you have any questions about gifts of securities, please contact us Toll Free at 1-800-387-9816, or by email at connect@cbcf.org.
