Scientific Conference Recommends Wider Breast Cancer Screening
“Our hope is that this report will alleviate the confusion that’s been created over the past few years about whether screening for women 40 – 49 saves lives.”
Sandra Palmaro, CEO, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Region.
In fall 2010, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation–Ontario Region released a final report and recommendations on breast cancer screening.
The 97-page report is based on work conducted in October, 2009 at the It’s About Time! A Consensus Conference held in Toronto. Researchers and clinical experts were invited from Canada, the United States and Europe to make presentations at the conference. The conference reviewed the most relevant and current screening research, which led to comprehensive recommendations for improving breast cancer screening for women at average and high risk.
The final conference report outlines new breast cancer screening recommendations and proceedings from the It’s About Time! A Consensus Conference and summarizes the complex scientific evidence on earlier detection and final screening recommendations in clear, understandable terms. The report also provides the evidence and evidence-based recommendations to help guide women, health care providers and policy makers towards advancing and improving screening practices and policies.
