National Competition – Earlier Detection of Breast Cancer

The registration phase of the National Grant Competition in Earlier Detection of Breast Cancer is no longer open.

Each year, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) directs millions of dollars to breast cancer research and community projects through its granting programs. Our grant applications are peer-reviewed by a panel of experts to ensure that every donor dollar supports only the best and most promising breast cancer research and community projects. Ultimately, we believe that all of our cause-related investments take us closer to a future without breast cancer.

Fall 2011 Earlier Detection Competition – Call for Proposals

The 2011 National Grants Call for Proposals is now closed. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation would like to thank all applicants for their interest.

A new $5 million initiative for 2011, this competition underscores the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s commitment to earlier detection as a nation-wide priority to reduce the impact of breast cancer. The National Grants are complementary to Regional Research Project Grants. Applications will be accepted from across the country.

The competition is an open call for project proposals for research that will focus on at least one of the following three sub-priority areas:

  • Advancing technology that has strategic potential to enable the first detection of  breast cancer at its earliest stages (primary malignant transformation);

  • Using or screening existing sample or population resources that are relevant to the discovery and/or validation of markers; or

  • Understanding the psychosocial ramifications of introducing new early detection technology into practice and the implications for technology adoption strategies.

Grants may be awarded for individual projects of up to three years in duration, with budgets of up to $450,000 (maximum $150,000 per year).
