The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) has allocated millions of dollars in grants supporting the advancement of breast cancer research, education, diagnosis and treatment across the country since 1986.

In 1998, the CBCF became a funding partner of the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance (CBCRA). The CBCRA's objective is to coordinate the pooled resources of the nation's largest fundraising organizations (such as CBCF) along with medical research and advocacy groups supporting Canadian breast cancer research, treatment and educational programs.

Recently, CBCF announced its commitment of $14 million over five years to leading edge breast cancer research in its Phase Three funding of the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance (CBCRA). This is a tremendous example of the Foundation's leadership role with CBCRA. CBCF's contribution will be allocated to CBCRA strategic initiatives, including research on lifestyle and environmental links to breast cancer.

Community Awareness
In addition to being a leader in funding breast cancer research, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation plays an active role in funding community programs that raise awareness of breast cancer.

Across the country, a number of CBCF-funded programs at the national and chapter levels, are in place to provide ongoing awareness of breast cancer and the benefits of early detection.

Year round, the CBCF organizes information forums, seminars, workshops and employee awareness programs. Contact our local Chapters or Branches for more information.

CBCF chapters annually award research grants, fellowships, and special grants to local community and regional projects.

Chapter Grants Awarded

The CBCF raises funds through special events, corporate sponsorship and donations. CBCF directs 90 per cent of tax receipted donations towards combating breast cancer. The remaining 10 per cent is used to support fundraising ventures and for administrative costs. (Canada Customs & Revenue Agency only requires 80 per cent of donations to be spent for charitable purposes.)
