The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is committed to funding the
best breast cancer research in Canada and to supporting projects
related to breast cancer education, diagnosis and treatment. A number
of guiding principles determine the procedure for applying for funding
and reviewing requests in both categories at the National and Chapter
levels.
Our primary focus is to provide funding to initiate the highest
quality research with the anticipation that the scientists or researchers
will seek on-going support from other sources once the project is
initiated.
In our Chapters, applications are reviewed and ranked by a panel
of experts who sit on Medical Advisory Committees and/or Research
Allocation Committees. Based on the committee recommendation, a final
decision regarding the awarding of any grants is made by the Board
of the respective Chapter. Education funds at the Chapter level include
grants for the development of resources along with outreach and awareness
programs.
At a national level, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is a
funding partner of the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance (CBCRA)
whose objective is to coordinate the pooled resources of Canada’s
largest research, advocacy and fundraising organizations, such as
the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, to fund Canadian research
in breast cancer.
Research grant allocations through CBCRA focus on a broad spectrum
of research in prevention, early detection, treatment, quality of
life, health services and laboratory investigations.
For all research grants, reports are required by the Foundation
upon completion of the research. Additional interim progress reports
may also be necessary as a condition of the grant. The final report
must include a list and copies of all presentations, abstracts, reports,
publications, and submission arising from work supported by the Foundation.
